Bizzy

My Dedication to the babies that fight each day to live because of human neglect and abuse like little Bizzy!
Bizzy was the baby of all babies .. she was 6 weeks old and so very affectionate and gentle .. she had the hardest battle of all to survive having had many set backs due to such a bad start in her tiny life.

Bizzy weighed in at .500 grams at a few weeks old .. with being undernourished .. dehydrated and worms .. fleas and a painful abyss on her back foot and tail.

Bizzy looked like she was going bet it all as she gained weight .. 2.2 kilograms and catching up with the others romping all over the house .. but fought each day to survive.

Bizzy had lived inside with her foster family and was nursed and cuddled a lot as she was syringe feed .. she would love to have had her very own kind loving family as she was sooo very little and cuddly.

Bizzy was a mixed breed but the vet has said she may have had a teeny little bit of Staffy in her .. she certainly had the nature and the love of people .. she was wonderful with all animals.

Darling little Bizzy lost her fight for life when she was 7 weeks old .. there were just too many bad bugs that she could not fight any longer.

Bizzy found her forever home .. but not the one I prayed that she would have.
Bizzy has a wonderful forever home

Gypsy

A Tribute to Gypsy:
Gypsy came to us in 2003-04 .. she was already 8 years old and featured on the website as a Special Case .. it seems she was a special case because she was older and it is a difficult enough task to place puppies let along older dogs .. WELL .. we certainly won the lottery with Gypsy Dog .. what a sweet nature .. well behaved .. did not bark unless someone she did not know knocked on the door .. put up with the cats ignoring her .. loved all the ch foods (chicken, chops, cheese and chuna, oops, tuna!) and was so very gentle.

She would hang on for hours if she needed to go to the toilet and could not go for whatever reason .. if an accident did happen .. then she was so embarrassed and upset you felt so bad for her .. even when it came floor cleaning time Gypsy would just get up and go outside until it was done.

The Angels are with Gypsy now

Happy Gypsy at home
Gyp-Gyp loved playing ball .. not keen on sticks .. loved the water though not too deep and always had to round us up into more shallow depths .. she did not seem to like men in hats or the hose .. all of which was a worry for what she had been though before she found us .. but she absolutely loved bath days and going to the vet .. well .. until the last days.

Twice Gypsy stayed at the boarding kennels back at YAPS but it was so distressing picking her up .. almost as if she thought we had abandoned her and that she had given up hope .. that we did not try it for a third time .. at one stage .. Gypsy hurt her leg and the vet chiropractor sorted that out for her but diagnosed cruxiate ligament problems which eventually saw her have an operation to fix it .. that meant no more rough ball throwing from us but more sedate ball game were okay .. she loved her visits to a friend’s place as his dogs and Gypsy would go for walks to the beach .. going for drives was good fun too because there was always so much to see and new smells .. then .. one of the many lumps Gypsy had changed very quickly.
A fluid sample indicated some possible nasties and Gypsy was booked for an operation to remove it .. a sample was sent off but the day before Gypsy was supposed to get her stitches out .. the call came to say she would have to have another operation as soon as possible so leave the stitches .. they would be taken out in preparation for the operation that was scheduled then the day after she was supposed to have the stitches removed .. the sample had indicated that wide enough margins had not been taken with the first op so they had to take more.

The second operation did go okay and we took Gypsy home as per usual .. her wound .. original six inches long .. was now a good 12 – 14 inches along her side .. Poor poor Gypsy Dog .. but that night .. during a light drizzly rain .. Gypsy would stagger outside .. throw up and collapse .. each time we moved her onto an old cover .. carried her inside and cleaned her up...until the next time .. in the morning .. it was straight back to the vet’s.

Not a well Gypsy second time around
Gypsy
Happier times for Gypsy at home
Our Gyp-Gyp stayed a week .. she was in the early stages of organ failure .. everyone fell in love with Gypsy’s gentle spirit and spoiled her as she improved .. special orders of chicken did not go unmet .. when she came home .. she was very weak and she never quite got back to the strength she’d had before.

Some months later .. she seemed very lethargic and depressed and not her usual self .. what the vet discovered this time was that Gypsy had an enlarged heart and arrhythmia .. she was started on heart medication and this helped tremendously .. but as the vet warned .. the close shave after the second operation and the now known heart condition along with her advancing years meant no more operations .. we were also warned that her time was close.

We did have Gypsy with us for several months more but her good days became less good .. then over Christmas 2008 .. Gypsy started vomiting .. our vet gave her tablets to help with reminders that her time was close .. between Christmas and New Year Gypsy was a very brave soul and she fought so hard .. she did not want to go as much as I did not want her to .. however she was vomiting every few hours .. eating very little and not keeping down what she did have.

The heat and humid was terrible and Gypsy was not doing well .. beautiful Gypsy Dog went for her last visit to the vet on 2 January 2009 .. she walked in a calmly as always and let the vet do all the things he needed to without complaint .. then she lay down and went to sleep .. I miss her terribly and know that such a very special friend comes along only so often.

I apologise for the length of Gypsy’s Story but if it helps anyone realise that re-homing older dogs can find you a special companion then it is worthwhile .. thank you to YAPS for sharing this very special spirit with us and for letting us honour her here.

Love you Gypsy....
Chris .. Amanda and Daniel

Sharna
- 12th September 2007

A dedication to Sharna:
A skinny Rhodesian Ridgeback was brought to YAPS (where I volunteer) from the local pound .. the shelter staff decided to call her Sharna .. at the time I did not know that she would make a special place in my heart. Everytime I showed her to someone she would lie in her kennel wanting to have a new home so badly but no one ever showed any interest .. she was part of a group of 4 dogs that were very good pals .. they would go for walks together .. play together .. 4 long months went past and Sharna had still not found a home .. the holidays were coming up so we decided to foster her out for a week .. she fitted straight into the family although she was very frightened at first .. she was terrified of sticks and water .. especially men who wore hats .. after that one week we knew that we could not take her back to the shelter .. so we decided to adopt her.

Sharna was the best dog that I ever had .. she was such a sweetheart that just wanted human love and to make us happy .. I may have only owned her for two and a half years but the bond we shared was amazing .. I never thought that I could be that attached to an animal .. she was there for me on my bad days and always greeted me with a wagging tail .. she put up with all the foster dogs I brought home and after a while got rid of some of her bad habits and picked up some new ones .. Ha Ha!

I still remember the day Sharna died like .. it was yesterday .. it was the morning of September 12th 2007 .. it was a terrible day for everyone .. Sharna was so happy and healthy the day before and when I found her at 7am she was not doing very well .. I knew that she was not going to make it as I comforted her in the examination room at the vets .. you could tell that the vets did not think she was going to make it either .. as she lay on the steel table I stroked her head and was fighting back tears .. she was given a dose of anti vemon but it was to late .. at 2:30pm that day we got a phone call from the vet saying that they had done everything that they could but she had passed away .. it was a sad day for everyone in our family .. I was overwhelmed with grief and cried for many days.

A paralysis tick caused Sharna's death .. I miss her so much .. she will always hold a special place in my heart .. she was such a kind and devoted dog .. I am so glad that I got to give her a happy ending to her bad life .. I am glad that I taught her that not all humans are bad and that there is such thing as love .. you could tell that she was very thankful to have a great home and she enjoyed it very much.

We had 2 1/2 wonderful years with Sharna .. thank you YAPS for bringing us such an amazing dog .. since then we have adopted Shandi or should we say troublemaker.

All the staff at YAPS do an amazing job at caring for the animals

Floyd Devine   (Sass)
1998 - 21st July 2008

Hi Carol and all the YAPS Staff
We just wanted to let you know that our beloved Floyd (who was named Sass when he was with Yaps) died this morning at 2.40am .. he had not been sick .. but did not get up for his dinner last night .. this was so unheard of .. so we knew something was wrong .. he was not walking too well last night .. so we put him in the bedroom with us and he just stopped breathing in his sleep .. so it was a peaceful end to an eventful life.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share all he had to offer .. he had been with us for eight of his approximate 10 years of life .. before he came to us he had been in at least two animal shelters .. one in Darwin and the other with you at Yaps in Cairns .. he will always be remembered and will forever be loved .. we hope your dogs all find wonderful homes.

I have sent some photos so that you can see him at his handsome best.

With all our love and best wishes
Sam .. John .. Audrey (Sarah from Yaps) and Dudley (from the Great Dane Rescue) Devine
All at Yaps are soooo very sorry for your
loss.

Bonnie

BONNIE was a very special little old staffy girl that came to Yaps in 2006 needing her own special family .. Lynne and her girls Lilli .. Rose and Roxy came to the rescue.

They took Bonnie home and loved her until sadly she past away .. Yaps staff witnessed the life Bonnie had with her new family.

Bonnie's new life was a fairy tale come true .. although it was only for a short time Bonnie loved and protected her new little family until the day she died.

Little Bonnie will be missed and remembered by all that were involved with her rescue.
Adopting an older pet takes very special people as a broken heart is just around the corner .. but all is sacrificed to give a beautiful animal as much love as possible in the time that you have left together.

In Bonnies' case she never knew such love until she was adopted by Lynne and her girls .. Bonnie died happily nestled in Lynnes' arms.
