Rosy and Willow

Plea from Renee in Brisbane to YAPS
This is very hard for me but my living conditions have changed .. I have had to moved to my parents place and there is no room for my 2 girls .. my babies are very kind natured and very loving .. they love children .. adults and cats!

Rosie is a 3 year old purebred female staffy .. she has a very kind nature .. but is not so good with other dogs .. but she does love Willow who is her companion.
Rosie
Willow is a female staffy X/mini foxie aged 2 years and as you can tell she loves cats .. both of my girls are desexed .. heart wormed .. flea treated and vaccinated .. I would like them to stay together but ultimately just want them to have good homes .. can you please help me!

Answered by Carol at Yaps

David and Sandra came and had a look at my girls and have decided to take them both .. they said that my babies were both lovely .. so thank you so much for making this hard situation so much easier .. I would like to organise to send you a donation to help with your cause .. as I believe that it is such a wonderful thing that your organisation does up there in Cairns .. please let me know who to make a cheque out to.
Thank you again .. my two girls will now have a long and healthy life thanks to your help.
God bless you!

told by MAGGIE

Maggie is my name and this is my new domain .. I am a 5 year old staffy girl who was surrendered into YAPS. I thought at the time Oh no whats happening with my life but let me tell you I have arrived at the most wonderful home and I am here to stay with my new mom Jean. As you can see I am not the least bit spoilt!!

told by Jean

I recently lost my old dog to cancer. I soon realized that I desperately missed not having a companion so the search was on for a new friend. This was not that easy to accomplish as I am older and use a walking stick so a young energetic dog was not for me. A very nice lady by the name of Gay found Maggie for me at YAPS .. Maggie has only been with me a couple of months but already she is the most loyal and loving companion.
Maggie is just so intelligent .. every morning when it is time for our walk we go down stairs .. I sit down in my chair with my walking stick across my lap .. Maggie comes over and lifts one foot at a time for me to put her harness on and then it is off for a gentle walk at my speed with never any pulling from my gentle Maggie. Maggie and Jean

MOCCA

Hi everyone .. my name is Mocca and I am a Staffy .. I was surrendered to the lovely people at YAPS .. this was a very hard time for me to be re homed.. as I only had one week to go until my puppies were born .. luckily YAPS had a Staffy loving Foster Family waiting to help any staffy in need .. that turned out to be me this time .. my Foster Mum was Tammy .. I loved her straight away .. she was gentle and kind.

Mocca with her 6 babies
Tammy was an experienced staffy owner .. she had taken care of pregnant mums with puppies before so she knew what to do .. the first night was really hard for the family .. and me .. I was really scared of what was going to become of me and my puppies .. I cried every time I was left alone .. my belly felt like it was about to burst .. but Tammy rubbed my belly .. all of the family treated me with so much care. Mocca with a puppy
Tammy put their female Border Collie Dog named Tippy on the bed beside me for company.. Tippy seem to understand and became my best friend .. a week later I had 6 beautiful purebred staffy puppies.
Time has past now .. but because I was just so beautiful the family could not send me back to YAPS for rehoming .. they kept me for themselves .. I am now part of Tammy and Shannon's family .. they have 4 kids .. Tippy the Border Collie .. the cat and 2 lorikeet birds and we all get along great.

YAPS found loving homes for all my Puppies.
This is me, Mocca with my best friend Tippy and Rikki

JACK was found wandering the streets of Cairns .. he was picked up and taken out to YAPS where he patiently waited for his owner to come and take him home ..Jack waited and waited for his owner but they did not turn up .. YAPS had Jack checked out by their vet and had him vaccinated .. he was then ready to find a new home .. Adrian came along and now Jack's life is once again complete .. he spends his days with Adrian and his mom .. either down at the beach .. lazing about on the lounge and even makes the occasional visit to the pup for lunch and a cool one.

JED our STAFFY:

My name is Caroline and I am writing to let you know how Jed's life has turned out .. thanks to the staff at Yaps .. especially Ailsa who saved Jeds life the day he was to be surrendered in June 2001 .. because of Jeds severe disability Jed would have to be destroyed.

Jed had Glaucoma .. a deadly eye disease.. as Yaps did not have the facilities to care for a sick blind staffy puppy .. Ailsa sent him onto the Staffy Rescue Home where he was nursed and prepared for the right home .. that blessing was to be mine and my family .. Jed is now 2 years old and has a normal life with our older Labrador dog Lucy .. my 2 sisters and my Mum and Dad.

Removing Jeds' eyes meant the the Glaucoma was also removed .. he was blind anyway .. it made no difference to Jed .. he loves chasing birds and swimming in the ocean .. he sleeps on my bed .. Dad built him a day room of his own next to mine so when we go out he is safe .. we all love him very much .

We would not have Jed today if he was not been taken to Yaps first. Much love to Ailsa and all the staff at Yaps from Jed and his family.

KHAN explained by Rianne

Hello YAPS staff
I just thought I would give you an update on Khan .. our adopted staffy .. we adopted Khan from YAPS on the 1st of November 2003.

The first year was his settling in year.
Khan does not like storms or fireworks and he has managed to escape about 15 times in a 12 month period .. luckily for us .. we have very understanding helpful neighbours .. who also know Khan very well and keep an eye on him for us.
Khanage
Over the past 12 months we have:

1. Build a staffy proof kennel .. we call KHANCATRAZ

2. Replace a $350 door which he attempted to chew through one stormy night when we were out.

3. Cemented around our fence line to stop the digging

4. Put corrugated iron on the side yard gates which he chewed a massive hole through the timber to get out.

5. He is also a bit of a Houdini .. he can open screen doors .. YES .. he opens the security screen door handle downstairs with his teeth.

6. He also then opens the garage doors .. he pulls on the tension wire and pushes with all his might until the door opens .. we had to install an automatic roller door in the garage to keep the lad in .. we will see how Houdini likes that!

So altogether we have built a kennel .. got a new door .. cemented the fence line .. replaced the timber on the gate .. keep the security screen door locked .. installed a roller door and despite all of this .. we still love him dearly .. he and our other dog Sam .. get on very well now and he even gets on with the cat .. Oh and we have upgraded his name from Khan to Khanage .. I think the reason for the name change speaks for itself.

Khanage is still afraid of fireworks and storms .. but now if we are home he seeks refuge in the bathroom on the bathmat .. or he is safely locked away in Khancatraz (the new kennel) .. he has also made a new friend .. the neighbours dog Jenny .. and the only time he tries to escape is if we go away overnight as he gets lonely .. so he now goes to a Boarding Kennel to fix that problem.

He is a little sticky though .. as I am writing this email he is sitting at my feet .. where ever I go he is by my side .. I love it!

Khanage loves going for a drive .. a walk and also loves chasing the hose .. he is also a very large lapdog .. Oh and he also loves his food.

I have attached a couple of self explanatory photos for you all to see .. despite all of this he really is a happy dog.

With kind regards
Very happy parents
Rianne and Jeff

TEX

Hi Guys
Just a quick note to let you know Tex traveled quite well from Cairns to Townsville .. sleeping most of the way on Lauren’s lap .. he is definitely an affectionate Staffy .. which is just great .. we are so pleased that he is now part of our family.

We will keep in touch
Suzie
.

UPDATE:
We just wanted to let you all know that Tex has settled in really well at home .. he is certainly a sook .. but he is beautiful .. very playful and just adorable .. so we are sure he will be happy here with us .. so far he hasn’t found any place where he can escape .. Tex has let the possums know that he is here now and the cats as well.
Thank you for everything that you did for Tex .. he will certainly be well looked after and the girls will love him when they get home from their holidays.

Have a great new year!
Cheers
Suzie

UPDATE:
Here is some more pictures of Tex and one of my daughters .. as you can see he is getting very spoilt .. he is on medication for his tummy rash and is coming along nicely .. gets taken for walks every morning and is basically having a ball.
Just thought I would let you know how he is going .. the girls just love him .. we suspect he may have been abused by one of his other owners .. he seems to really flinge when we feed him and go to pat his head .. he is just adorable and can't figure out why anyone would want to hurt him .. he certainly knows when he has done something wrong .. has gone to pulling the towels off the line .. does nothing with them just pull them off and leaves them on the ground. As soon as I go over to them he is off .. I just laugh and tell him that he is a bad dog .. I can't bring myself to hit him.

You all have a wonderful day.
Cheers
Suzie
Tex gettting loads of love

MACCA

A phone call from a local Vet began Macca's time with us .. this poor little 6 month old boy had been hit by a car one week before .. nobody had come back to claim him .. a large vet account was probably the reason why they never returned .. however YAPS came through paying the account and setting out to find a much needed staffy foster family for Macca .. a save .. quiet loving place to rest until he was well enough to be rehomed was what we needed .. the Jones Family came forward immediately .. not to foster but to take him home forever .. as they had a small child this was not suitable .. so Mandy and Lloyd took on the fostering for YAPS and the Jones's .. Mandy and Lloyd were staffy people and grew to love Macca very much.

Mandy and Lloyd took Macca for his checkup .. only to find his leg was not healing so well .. fear of amputation became a real threat .. due to Mandy and Lloyd's excellent care and a generous donation from an Overseas Staffy Lover visiting Cairns .. Macca's treatment was upgraded and successful .. Macca eventually went home to Racheal .. Anthony and their little boy Caleb .. Macca lives in their home as Caleb's 4 legged furry brother .. we will say no more!!

UPDATE:
Macca is wonderful and fits into our family really well .. his leg has healed .. so we took Macca to the Social Staffy Race Day .. he had 2 runs and did alright in the first one and went flat out in the second race .. we even took him on a holiday to Townsville and he travelled really well .. so all in all he is doing great and as a family we all enjoy living together.

Many thanks to Yaps and Macca's beautiful foster family .. Mandy and Lloyd for all their loving care.
